The Timaru District features rivers, back country streams and lakes with good populations of brown and rainbow trout. Heading through to the Mackenzie Country you will also find popular spots for Salmon fishing.

Timaru's whitebaiting season

Timaru’s whitebaiting season runs from 1 September to 30 October (inclusive)

Popular whitebaiting rivers include the Orari, Opihi, Waitaki and Rakaia rivers.
