South Canterbury Museum

                          
The South Canterbury Museum has a focus on the natural history of the South Canterbury region of New Zealand with exhibits around the land, life and people of the region.
With large collections of specimans, artifacts, images, documents which are housed in purpose-built displays to explore.
Exhibitions include:
Natural history -  collections include local fossils, insects, birds, marine life and other creatures as well as exotic butterflies, birds eggs and shells.
Māori history - Our region's human history began with the arrival of early Māori settlers over 800 years ago.  The Timaru District was a popular place for the early Māori settlers with our river networks providing them natural highways as they travelled inland in search of food and medicine ingredients.
